No Man’s Sky uses TAA, but the coverage isn’t great. Many screen elements, particularly those that intersect with certain effects, showcase sharp jagged edges. Making matters worse, the image seems to flicker at all times, with distracting pixel movement on geometric edges. The TAA doesn’t seem to do much for the game’s textures either, which are awash in aliasing when viewed at an angle. At higher resolutions on other platforms, No Man’s Sky’s TAA works fine, but as you might expect, the render targets here are pretty limited. In docked play, we’re looking at an 1152×648 resolution, while portable mode drops down to 896×504.

No Man’s Sky is a procedural science fiction exploration and survival game developed by English developer Hello Games out of Guildford, UK. Hello Games is best known for their Joe Danger series, and brought their unique development style to No Man’s Sky. The game features planetary exploration, deep oceans, space-based battles, predators and prey, and much more across various procedurally-generated worlds.

“Performance-wise, we’re looking at a 30fps target with a v-sync cap, as you’d expect. Generally, while just walking around you can expect a 30fps update most of the time. However, there are relatively frequent frame-rate drops. Often, these occur without a clear cause – short spikes around 100ms or extended dips to the upper 20s. Slightly more complex scenery can pull frame-rates to the mid 20s, even while simply walking around. More complex actions, like firing at creatures or blasting away terrain, can cause similar issues. You’ll also see some pretty hard stuttering at times when transitioning between planets and space. When No Man’s Sky drops frames here the frame-rate cap does tend to break, making the stuttering feel more pronounced.

The backlash hasn’t been universal, though. While many are complaining that they worked 100+ hours for upgrades that are now functionally useless, as one Reddit thread puts it, others have found that the tweaks and restrictions bring more balance and challenge to the game. The negative responses do appear to be the loudest, however, and it’s uncertain if those have influenced Hello Games’ decision to expand the slots in the experimental build.

The experimental build patch notes on Steam note that Hello Games has added additional free technology slots, both for players newly updating their game to the Waypoint version and folks who already have existing saves. You can access No Man’s Sky’s experimental build by right-clicking on the game in your Steam library, selecting Properties, navigating to Betas, entering the password 3xperimental , and choosing the Experimental build.

 No Man’s Sky Torrent is brilliant, and for me the finest aspect of the game, followed closely by the option of obtaining huge starships called freighters. And while I joked about not doing much on the game in 30 hours, realistically around 20 of those have been spent building my first base, which is basically two large, square office blocks, one with a starship Launchpad on top.

No Man’s Sky on Switch is a fantastic port of a game we genuinely didn’t really believe would make the transition to Nintendo’s console without some serious technical issues. Hello Games has made the necessary cutbacks and downgrades to get this intergalactic survival sandbox playing at a super solid frame rate and the colorful, chunky graphical style here ensures that it all still looks pretty fantastic to boot. With all of the game’s previous updates and content included multiplayer at this point  and a plethora of customization options courtesy of the massive Waypoint update, this is an easy recommendation for survival fans and one of the most impressive ports we’ve seen on Switch to date.

As well as update 4.0, called Waypoint, No Man’s Sky was also ported to Switch recently, finally making it available on Nintendo’s hybrid system. Developer Hello Games’ co-founder Sean Murray has said that the team has plans for the game going forward, and while there’s been no indication of exactly what those plans entail, it shows that the studio is eager to continue in its efforts to bring more content to the title. However, it seems as though not all patches have been well received.

No Man’s Sky Crack was released today by Hello Games on PS4 (to be followed by a PC release this Friday). There’s a good chance that you’ve heard of this game. It’s the one with billions (actually 18 quintillions) of earth sized planets and dark corners that will likely never be fully explored much less named. Each planet is procedurally created and populated, down to the sounds created by the animals, making every player’s experience wholly unique.  When it came to creating the huge variety of plants, the artists at Hello Games turned to Speed Tree to generate the huge varieties of plant life.

Perhaps the strangest of Sony’s acquisitions this year was that of Evolution Championship Series, or Eva for short. Eva is one of the biggest  if not the biggest fighting game tournaments of the year, so we see Sony dipping its hand into the world of sports here. Technically, Sony’s acquisition of Evo is a joint venture with another sport’s company called Endeavor, so it doesn’t have sole ownership over the tournament, but we’re still to see how the event may change with Sony calling at least some of the shots.

• Base Building

It’s hard to believe that a survival exploration game would ship without any base building, but when NMS launched, it was just you, your ship, and the galaxy. Players didn’t have to wait long to build a base, though. In November 2016, the Foundations Update added the first base-building elements to NMS. Hello Games has added so much more to base building since then, including hundreds of new parts, farms to tend, and even settlements to take over and control.

• Multiplayer And Crossley

Do you also remember how two players quickly made it to the same spot in the galaxy and couldn’t see each other, only to have HG say that they were at least sharing the same galaxy even though they couldn’t see each other? Well, with the No Man’s Sky Next Update, players could finally meet up and play together in the same space. Co-op play has expanded since then, but this was where Hello Games finally fulfilled one of their major pre-launch promises.

• Freighters

With the addition of freighters, players could finally build a permanent, mobile presence off-world. Freighters aren’t just multi-purpose storage containers or starship garages. Many of the technology upgrades and modules available to build planeside can be construct in your freighter. The freighter also has some unique building blocks, like the Fleet Command Room, which is use to launch expeditions.

• Relaxed Mode And Custom Mode

With the Waypoint Update, Relaxed mode allows players to explore a non-hostile galaxy. Custom Mode takes this even further by allowing players to mix and match gameplay elements at will, leaving out things they don’t like and keeping what they enjoy the most. The customization is even granular enough that players can manipulate each element to give them just the right amount of difficulty for their tastes. It’s a huge step forward in making NMS accessible to a broader audience, and more players are always a good thing.
